It is important to critically evaluate any material that you find on the Web. We recommend using these five evaluative criteria:

Authorship
Publishing body
Currency (of the document itself)
Referral to and/or knowledge of the literature
Point of view or bias

Short Tutorial: Evaluating Sources from Johns Hopkins

Encyclopædia Iranica
A comprehensive research tool dedicated to the study of Iranian civilization in the Middle East, the Caucasus, Central Asia, and the Indian subcontinent. The Encyclopædia is an international, collaborative project, based at Columbia University.
Islamic Heritage Project
Through the Islamic Heritage Project (IHP), Harvard University has cataloged, conserved, and digitized hundreds of Islamic manuscripts, maps, and published texts. These rare—and frequently unique—materials are now freely available to Internet users worldwide.

A wonderful collection of links and historical materials related to the Islamic world.
OACIS for the Middle East
From Yale University Library. OACIS for the Middle East (Online Access to Consolidated Information on Serials) is a union list of serials from or about the Middle East. The mission of OACIS is to improve access to Middle Eastern serials in libraries in the United States, Europe, and the Middle East.
Persian Manuscripts, British Library
This collection at the British Library is one of the most significant collections in the world in both size and importance. Consisting of over 11,000 works in almost as many volumes, it combines the two world-class collections of the British Museum and the India Office Library. These manuscripts originate from the whole of the Persianate world, in particular Iran, Central Asia and India and range in time from the 12th century to recent years, representing most of the traditional fields of humanities and religious studies.
Pew Research Center: Religion and Public Life
Research and news as part of an information clearinghouse at the "intersection of religion and public affairs" from a nonpartisan "fact tank".
Sacred Texts of Islam
Includes texts of the holy Qu'ran, the Hadith, a selection of Sufi texts and a variety of other related literary and non-literary texts.
Arab Studies Institute
A not-for-profit organization that produces knowledge on matters related to the Arab world and its relations. It serves as an institute in its own right and as an umbrella organization for five other subsidiaries: the Arab Studies Journal, Jadaliyya, Quilting Point, FAMA (Forum on Arab and Muslim Affairs), and Tadween Publishing.
