Why Journal Articles?

Scholarly journals use academic experts to examine the scholarship and quality of the research before the article is published in a process known as "peer review".

Popular magazines and newspapers use reporters and editors to collate and review the information in articles.

It is important that you become familiar with the major scholarly journals for PHIL099 so that you can more easily identify potentially useful articles when browsing through bibliographies or using databases and search engines.


Finding Articles


For your assignments and research you will need to find academic journal articles. Your best starting point is HoyaSearch , your 'one stop shop' for searching lots of online databases all at once. Simply select the HoyaSearch tab on the search box on GU-Q Library website and make sure the "Everything" option is selected in the drop down menu. Enter your keywords and press "Search".


In the results list, filter to "Articles" under the Content Type section to your left.

Why Databases?

GU-Q Library offers access to a wide selection of specialist databases offering direct access to journal articles in the world's best scholarly publications.  Some of these databases allow you to restrict your search to only peer reviewed articles.
